History of the SDA3
Thursday January 24th 2008 Posted: 17:00 CST

The SDA3 was founded in 1989 by RPG enthusiasts concerned with censorship and negative stereotypes on fantasy and science fiction. It served a purpose to provide advocacy to alternative social organizations engaged in storytelling and roleplaying activities during the repressive 1990s and retaliation of mainstream media against commercial fantasy entertainment and the online free press.

The firm is now a private organization offering information and resources (not to include legal advice) on publication, content development, marketing, and professional aspects of fandom and science fiction.

Over the past 19 years, the firm has provided services at Oklahoma and Texas media and literature conventions (Thundercon, Soonercon, Akon, Animefest, OKon, Pandemonium, and Conestoga), giving panel talks on the future of game development, content creation, and copyright.

As of 2008, the firm is expanding its services into online interactive software development, multimedia, and advanced concepts of intellectual property which the board feels are deeply under-represented in public schools. The firm supports artists' rights and public education against copyright infringement as the correct alternative to legal harassment and abusive tactics of the RIAA. It is the hope of the SDA3 that a new generation be introduced to artists who are willing to directly participate in this exchange.
